FAQs

I've done mat-based classes before, but is equipment-based Pilates at Sp2 Kinetics™ right for me?

Answer

Yes! It is perfect for you! A reformer is the ultimate Pilates workout and the most popular piece of Pilates equipment. Reformer classes at Sp2 Kinetics™ offer an increased repertoire and dimension to traditional mat-based Pilates. Don’t worry! You will be carefully guided to get the most out of the studio’s equipment.

When you participate in equipment-based Pilates at Sp2 Kinetics™ you gain health and fitness benefits, regardless of your age, fitness level or previous Pilates experience.

Why should I do Pilates with a physiotherapist at Sp2 Kinetics™?

Answer

A physiotherapist is the market expert in analyzing how your body moves and what prevents you from moving optimally.

Quality instruction is critical to achieving results through Pilates. At Sp2 Kinetics™, class programming is designed, choreographed and instructed by Pilates based Physiotherapist, Shonna Bogden. As a qualified and practising Pilates based physiotherapist, I recognize that the site of a movement problem may not always be the source of that problem and I provide movement solutions and exercise programming specific to you and your body’s ever-changing needs.

My expertise provides incredible advantage for you with immediate benefits in the design of your specific Pilates programming. I not only aim to get you moving, I also strive to help you get more performance from your body with direct impacts on your everyday lifestyle, health and fitness abilities.

As a Pilates based physiotherapist, I help prevent injuries, keeping you involved in your sport. For gym enthusiasts, I can help you push through that painful, limiting shoulder press in your crossfit and weight training. For anyone in between feeling stiff and restricted at the end of their day, and seeking a fantastic solution to feeling better with exercise, call and book an appointment to see what can be done to make a difference in how you feel and move.

Whether you are fit, in injury recovery, are pregnant, or if you have any specialized movement requirements, I can optimize your fitness experience in group class or private class.

Are all Pilates classes at Sp2 Kinetics™ the same?

Answer

No! Not all Pilates classes at Sp2 Kinetics™ are the same! When comparing providers of Pilates, quality instruction is critical to achieving benefits through the Pilates method.

The studio offers 2 types of Pilates classes:

group class is intended for anyone free from injury and wanting to engage in Pilates in a class environment, to step up their fitness, strength and body awareness. To maintain the quality of education, and provides direct hands-on supervision and assistance, reformer classes are limited to a maximum of 5 people—with a minimum of 2; mat classes are limited to a maximum of 7 people- with a minimum of 3

private class is an intensive, one-to-one Pilates experience customized to your individual fitness objectives and your individual body. It is a fantastic choice if you are new to Pilates, recovering from injury, managing ongoing pain, are pregnant or a new mum, or have specific needs including athletes with a desire to gain a competitive edge… and everyone in between, then you can be confident that individual planning and care goes into establishing each and every personal workout you attend

Before starting any class at Sp2 Kinetics™, you need to complete an initial consultation, a private assessment of your movement, defining your Pilates goals and establishing your Pilates technique. As this is your first workout at the studio, be sure to dress in clothing suitable for exercise

Am I destined to be the next Hunchback of Notre Dame…

I am referring to what is medically called the Dowager’s Hump (DH), this term can create a frenzy with images or something similar to the Hunchback of Notre Dame.  As a physiotherapist & Pilates educator, I commonly see clients complaining of neck problems, including pain and stiffness with varying stages of DH. Just the other day a client approached me with troubling neck pain and subsequently asked about her hump- wondering what on earth it was.

Inspirational piece- My dad, his stroke…

This is my dad! I share this heartfelt and personal story as motivation. I hope it inspires all who may have experienced a similar situation with family or friends or perhaps you are trying to win your own battles back to health.
